MOV-S GALICIA 2008
mov-s is a space for International Exchange of Dance and Movement Arts. Its first edition was held on April 2007 in Mercat de les Flors (Barcelona). mov-s aims to build bridges between artists and Dance and Movement Arts organizations in order to establish communication, collaboration and meeting channels. mov-s is an initiative by Mercat de les Flors de Barcelona and aims to become itinerant around Spain. Therefore, mov-s is held one year in Mercat de les Flors and the next year in another Spanish city or region. This year, mov-s will be held in Galicia, where it will be organised with the collaboration of Centro Coreográfico Galego (Galician Choreographic Centre).
The proposed topic of this year around which the different activities of mov-s will revolve is: “conditions for choreography creation”.
mov-s Galicia 08 will raise questions and will try to obtain some answers, in order to be able to find out which are the optimal conditions so that this creative process starts with quality and innovation guarantees. For this reason, we will propose two round tables and several workshops related to the debates, more private and closer, where experiences and opinions may be shared.
In addition to this, we will invite people related to the development of dancing in Flandes, because it is an international historical point of reference and important lessons can be learnt from it. We will also dedicate a special glance to dancing in Portugal and Brazil as parallelisms can be established because of their proximity.

MERCAT DE LES FLORS
After more than twenty years of history, the Barcelona public theatre of
the Mercat de les Flors has entered a new period that will lead to it
becoming the Centre for Movement Arts, in a project jointly organised by
Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia and the Spanish
Ministry of Culture. The goal of the project is to make the Mercat a
reference point for all those artistic disciplines related to movement,
principally dance, networking with other structures and taking commitment
with the support of creation and audience development. Since June 2007 the
new structure has become true and Mercat de les flors has got a new
organizational framework.
CENTRO COREOGRÁFICO GALEGO
The Galician Choreographic Centre (GCC) is a centre of creation, production, training and investigation for the development of Dance in Galicia. A nexus of dialogue and cultural interaction, a space in which the main artistic languages can find their place in order to enrich and favour the development. The GCC’s main aim is to promote the interaction between artists and the public drawing Art towards the citizens in a normal way.
The GCC orients its works to different audiences: professional artists, program spaces, cultural intermediates and citizens. Regarding dance professionals, support artistic creation, investigation and training, one must decentralise actions and build bridges between projects and institutions, so that dance can meet up with other artistic disciplines; these are the main channels to work. As far as the public is concerned, carry out actions aimed at increasing awareness regarding dance and work in order to put this art in the centre of Galician cultural life.
